Sur la cote sud...

Samedi dernier, nous sommes alles visiter un peu la cote sud avec les trois Irlandais qui nous ont rejoint au Service Forestier.
Last Saturday, we visited the south cost with three Irish people who work with us at the Icelandic Forest Service.

Nous avons donc loue un van neuf places que nous avons failli laisser dans la boue.
So we rented a Ford Transit where can sit 9 people. We nearly stocked it in the mud to get there.
Excursion au pied d´une langue de glace appelee Sólheimajökull...
We went to see Sólheimajökull glacier.

Cascades en tout genre dont Skogarfoss, la deuxieme. We saw a lot of waterfalls. Skogarfoss is the second one.

Les falaises sont le domaine des oiseaux. Nous en avons vu beaucoup: mouettes tridactyles, cancards arlequins, eiders a duvet, goelands argentes, goelands bruns, grands labbes, fulmars boreaux (photo ci-dessous). Nous avons cherche des colonies de macareux sans succes.
Here there are many different kind of birds, especially ducks, gulls and other sea birds. On the picture below, it is a nothern fulmar. We looked for puffins but did not find them.

Saxifraga oppositifolia, experte en terrain hostile, par exemple sur les rochers. This plant grows very well onrocks and cliffs.

Les celebres moutons islandais : tels Attila, la ou ils passent l´herbe ne repousse pas ! The famous icelandic sheeps: where they have browsed, none vegetation can grow for a long time.

Enfin, la mer, les falaises et les plages... And now, sea, cliffs and beaches...

Trois Irlandais nous ont rejoint depuis une semaine. Sur la photo, deux d´entre eux avec Einar, un des forestiers avec qui on travaille, et Nico. La specialite d´Einar est de construire des ponts en bois pour l´accueil du public...

Three Irishes have joined us for one week. On the picture, two of them with Einar, a forester working with us, and Nico. Einar´s speciality is to build wood bridge for people walking in the forest.

Mogilsa

Durant ce week-end, nous avons ete loges dans une petite maison forestiere a Mogilsa a 10 km de Reykjavik. En montant sur la montagne au dessus de la maison, une jolie vue sur Reykjavik et ses environs.
During this week-end, we lived in a small forestry house in Mogilsa, 10 km from Reykjavik. Going on the mountains up to the house, we got a nice view on Reykjavik and its surroundings.
Pour ceux qui aiment la botanique : Saxifraga oppositifolia. For those who love botanic: this is Saxifraga oppositifolia.
Crocus cernus
Une becassine des marais, Gallinago gallinago, a common snipe.
Un chevalier gambette, Tringa totanus, a common redshank.

Visite d´Akranes

Akranes est a premiere vue une ville pour le moins pas tres jolie...
At first sight, Akranes is at least a "not very beautiful" town...
Mais une fois arrives au bords de la mer, la vue de tous les oiseaux marins nous le fait un peu oublier. La, ceux sont des goelands a ailes blanches (Larus glaucoides).
But once along the sea, we enjoy observing sea birds. These are Iceland gulls (Larus glaucoides).

Et ceux-ci sont des goelands bruns (Larus fuscus). These are Lesser black-backed gulls (Larus fuscus).

Enfin, nous avons visite le musee d´Akranes: collections de roches, musee de la peche, du sport, de la cartographie... At last, we visited Akranes museum: rocks collection, fishing, sport, cartography...

Hockey sur glace a Reykjavik

Ce week-end, nous etions a Reykjavik pour assister a un tournoi de hockey sur glace auquel participait le fils d´Einar, le forestier qui travaille avec nous en ce moment. Ici, c´est un tag. Ils sont en moyenne assez joli a Reykjavik.
This week-end, we were at Reykjavik to see ice-hockey. The son of Einar, the forester working with us right now, was playing there. What you can see first is what we call a tag. It a painting on a wall in the street. In Reykjavik, these paintings are rather beautiful.
Ce fut l´occasion pour Anne d´essayer les fameux poneys islandais. Premiere impression: c´est assez rigolo...
There Anne was able to try one of the famous icelandic ponys. First feeling: this is rather funny...

Enfin, le hockey ! Ice-hockey, at least !

Tout cela donna des idees a Alex et Mimil. Seeing all that gave ideas to Alex and Mimil.

Voici notre equipe de bouchers... euh je veux dire de bucherons. This is our lumberjacks´team.
Pendant notre sejour a Reykjavik, nous avons visite le Museum national, un musee qui retrace l´histoire de l´Islande des Vikings jusqu´a aujourd´hui. Ce fut l´occasion pour nous d´essayer quelques habits traditionnels. During our stay in Reykjavik, we went to the National Gallery, a museum explaining the history of Iceland from the Vikings to our days. There we tried Icelandic traditionnal clothes.

A 75 m de haut le clocher de Hallgrímskirkja domine Reykjavik. Son architecture rappelle les orgues basaltiques... Hallgrímskirkja, the most famous church of Reykjavik dominates the town with its 75 meters height. Its architecture remembers us basalt columns.


Dans le port, les Baleiniers attendent une autorisation pour repartir. In the harbour, the whale-fishing boats need an authorization to get back to sea.


Au nord de Reykjavik, Hvalfjörður (le Fjord des baleines) s'etend sur 5,7 km. North from Reykjavik, Hvalfjörður, the whales fjord, streches on 5,7 km.


Au fond du Fjord, un canyon ou s´écoule la plus haute cascade d´Islande: Glymur 198m de haut.
At the end of the fjord, there is a canyon where the highest waterfalls of Iceland flow: Glymur waterfalls, 198m high.

Dans le parc national de þingvellir, on se trouve entre les plaques eurasiennes et américaines sur la dorsale, un endroit unique au monde. In Þingvellir National Park, we are just between two continental plates: the eurasian and the american plates, and right on the oceanic rift. This a very singular place.



þingvallavatn, le plus grand lac d´Islande s´étend sur 84km2. Þingvallavatn, the biggest lake of Iceland streches on 84 square kilometers.

Des eiders a duvet, en blanc les males se distinguent par leurs couleurs des femelles. These are common eiders: the whites are the males.


Le drapeau islandais, bleu pour la mer, blanc pour les glaciers et rouge pour les volcans. The Icelandic flag: blue from the sea, white for glaciers and red for volcanos.
